What is a spider?

The students gather characteristics about the spider through a scavenger hunt and a desk draw of the anatomy. Their discussion and predictions concerning adaptations for the spider are thoughtful and impressive. They discover the modifications of this arachnid and compare it to the insect. Eight legs, cephalothorax, abdomen, spinnerets, chelicerae and pedipalps are just a few of the characteristics that makes the spider unique. These carnivorous invertebrates are known for their beautiful orb webs and the seven different types of silk that can be used for a variety of functions.
