Squid Dissection

Throughout the year the students have been observing living organisms and distinguishing the characteristics of each one. We worked our way through the phylums, from simple to complex and ended the year with cephalopods. Comparing the octopus and the squid was a fun and informative process by studying learned behavior, problem solving and maternal characteristics of the octopus. The dissection of the squid helped the students identify the pen, gills, ink sac and hearts.
