Middle School Students That View the Living World In a Unique Way
Monarch Mission
My students are mastering the four stages of complete metamorphosis by taking on the challenge of raising their monarch butterfly larva through five instars. They are in charge of cleaning the habitat on a daily basis and feeding the host plant which is antelope horn and green milkweed. They are also collecting data through this three week period and once each of the larva emerges as an adult after the pupa stage, they will be working on percentages of males vs. females, and percentage of successes. This is real science and also demonstrating their contribution to conservation work!
