My sixth grade students raised over 200 monarch and queen butterflies this fall. Due to the fact that the queen butterfly is a mimic to the monarch and the eggs look identical, many queens are collected while monitoring for monarchs. All the butterflies were fed, cleaned and monitored on a daily basis by the children. Data was collected along this three month journey. The monarchs were tagged and released using a six digit code through monarch watch. All the data was submitted to University of Minnesota Monarch Lab and Journey North by the students. Pages of data concerning gender, dates, releases, and species were analyzed by the students and graphed.
