My students compare eubacteria and archaebacteria in both class and lab. These two kingdoms are unicellular prokaryotes that have vast differences in habitats. We used a graphic organizer to look at eubacteria and how they can be both helpful and harmful . Class discussions included pathogenic (harmful) eubacteria and our microbiome that keeps our immune system healthy. Fortune tellers helped them identify characteristics that compared and contrasted prokaryotes from eukaryotes.
Students created play-doh anatomy models, sang songs, and even cultured the bacteria from their hands to observe different strains growing!
