Cheek Cell Lab

The human cheek cell is a great example of an animal cell. We are studying cells that are eukaryotes and have a distinct nucleus containing genetic material DNA.My children scrap the inside of their mouth and prepare a slide with a cover slip. Scanning through the objectives, they can search for their cheek cells on the microscope. They will also add iodine to stain the nucleus and make it visible.
