Known for their sideways walk, the crab is an amazing animal that has survived 400 million years. The children used hand lenses to focus on the external anatomy of the crab and how it has modified from other crustaceans. Locating and opening the apron enabled the students to identify their crab as a male called a Jimmy, or a female called a Sook. A pointed carapace, compound eyes on stalks, and movable mouth parts were just a few of the characteristics that they investigated with their probes.
