Using iodine as an indicator, the children set up an experiment to discover which molecule moved through the bag, corn starch or iodine. When the corn starch and iodine combine, a purple color appears. This experiment guided the students through the scientific process with a series of data tables to complete and inquiry based questions. After the analysis, they stated whether their hypothesis was supported or not. The ability of the molecules to move through the bag demonstrated osmosis and permeable membranes.
