We have been raising monarch butterflies in the classroom as part of our conservation project. We have lost 90% of our monarch migration in the last 20 years. My students are learning how to collect data on the gender, tagging the monarch and releasing them for the fall migration to Mexico. My students monitored the campus milkweed garden and found monarch eggs and larvae. We raised them in the classroom and observed them emerge after the chrysalid/pupa state. The tag that is attached to the discal cell contains a six digit code that is registered to our class.
